NEWLETTER MAY 08
Club championships are drawing near. Here is some IMPORTANT INFORMATION for swimmers. All swimmers MUST sign in on arrival before five pm. Our results service is computerized for the first time due to the purchase of specialist software and anyone not signed in will be deemed to be absent and their entries WILL BE removed. Please note; you MUST NOT sign anyone else in for them. Warm up will commence just after five pm and the gala will start as soon as possible. We welcome parents who want to have a go at timekeeping by doubling up with parents who have done it before - see Anne.
Presentation evening is booked at Thorne Demi for Friday 25 July. (No masters swimming on that night) Tickets available shortly. Do you know anyone who might be interested in presenting the awards? A good social evening/get together (even if your child doesn't win anything). All 9 and under swimmers get certificates for all races completed legally if they don't qualify for a trophy or medals.
Disco will be organised. Also presented will be "The Swimmer of the Year Award" for the swimmer who the coaches agree has earned it for attitude, attendance and improvement. "The Swimmers' swimmer award" is voted on by all members. Please complete the voting slip on the end of this letter and post it in the box in reception as soon as possible. You must not vote for yourself and no tactical voting like Eurovision please! It should go to someone you think deserves it.
Due to club championships there will by NO land or swimming training on Sundays in June. (lessons continue a usual)
Please make sure you regularly check to website (and notice board) - Sign in to access further information!
is the blog for swimmers to have their say and have a chance to post an article. Regularly updated by two main authors and hopefully future features from guest authors. To get something put on the site, or to become a guest author, follow the instructions at the blog.
Lesson dates: This course ends on 22 June. The new course dates are 29.June, 6 and 13 July - summer break -then 7,4, and 21 Sept. This means the teaching staff get break and we can fit in two full courses before Christmas 28 Sept - 2 Nov. and 9 Nov. to 14 Dec.
We may have the opportunity to access a NARS lifeguard course at Thorne in July. Please see ask for further details/book
We could use a few more volunteers on poolside. Training courses are available but you will need to have gained some teaching experience first. The more volunteers we have the better the quality of teaching/coaching the children receive.
The Club is still searching for sponsor - do you know anyone who may be interested - See Mark. At our Open Meet at Leeds next year there is still the opportunity to sponsor a particular event and get your business in print. Do you know of any funding sources we can tap into to enable the club to expand further?
We need to record and inform the A.S.A of all swimmers who have passed Preliminary Competitive Start Award and the Competitive Start Award. When they have met all the criteria the award will be available to purchase. If your child has already been assessed/passed this will be indicated at the end of this letter.
This Club has signed up to fundraising online. We get a % of each sale and search that you make via the site
