Tigers swimmers went out for another competition on Sunday. This time they went to Hull to a competition put on by York City Baths Club with events in all strokes at 50m a longer 200m free style race and a 100m Individual Medley race ( where the swimmers swims one length of each stroke).
The hard work and effort the swimmers have been putting in in training showed with their results today. Some large persomal best times(PB) (the fastest they have swum in that event) and a number of medals.
The boys outnumbered the girls in the Tigers squad but in the pool there were more girl competitors. In the 11/12 mixed age group there was more than 30 competitors, our only representative in this age group was Kathy Clay at only just 11. She swam well with smooth strokes and strong kick. she kept her head down coming off the turn and was rewarded with a massive 26 second personal best time in her 200m free swim and a 13 second personal best in 50m backstroke. Our other girl was Emilie White in 13/14 age group she also had an excellent swim in the 200m free with a 12 second personal best. She received medals in 50 breast, 50m free and 50m fly.
The boys 13/14 age group we had Jack Green and Harry Finch. Again the 200m freestyel swim saw massive improvemnts for them both in their times. Harry with a 39 second PB time and Jack 15 second PB. Jack was rewarded with a medal in this event and also medals in 50m breast, 100m IM, 50m back and 50m fly.
Our biggest age group was the 11/12 boys with Jake Robinson, Harry Phillips and Owen Smith. Jake the youngest at still 10 but due to date on age grading has to swim in 11/12 age group. All the boys did the 200m free and we again saw massive improvements in times and some good swimming Owen beat Jake by just 1 second to sneak into a medal position. Owen also picked up a medal in 50m Backstroke. Jake was rewarded with his hardwork with a medal in 50m fly to finish the afternoon off nicely. It was nice to see Harry Phillips back on form in the pool and he was rewarded with a well deserved medal in 50m Breast.
Our youngest competitor on the day at only his second competition was Ethan Green in 9 year age group. He swam in 4 events and was nicely rewarded with 4 bronze medals.
An enjoyable event, during the last two races and after the event there appeared to be more water outside the pool than inside with heavy rain accompined by thunder and lightening to be seen/ heared outside the windows. We then "paddled" to the car and the spectators got as wet as the swimmers had done in the pool. |
